About the Artist

Angela Mellor was born in Cheshire, England. She studied at Art and Design at Manchester University and in 1984 specialised in porcelain with Peter Lane at the University of East Anglia. She later developed her work in bone china with Sasha Wardell in France. Her work has developed alongside her teaching in England over twenty years.

Angela moved to Perth, Western Australia in December 1994 and set up a studio to work full time on her ceramics. During 1995/96 Angela spent a lot of time in Indonesia researching exotic plants and studying Asian ceramics.

B.F.A. Honours Research program at the University of Tasmania, Hobart in 1997 led to an exploration of organic forms and ceramic translucency. In 1998 she was awarded a Monash Graduate Scholarship to do research for her M.A.

She received an Honourable Mention in the 5th and 6th International Ceramics Competition in Mino, Japan 1998 and 2002, and also in the 1st World Ceramic Biennale Korea 2001 in both categories. Her work has been included in international publications and is represented in public and private collections internationally. Angela has recently been awarded an Australia Council Grant for New Work and an ArtsWA grant for a Solo Exhibition in collaboration with Perth Lightning Company, 'Mono Luce' held at Craftwest, November 29th 2003 to January 8th 2004.
