About the Artist

Peter is an autodidactic artist. Aside from painting, over the years he has been active in the fields of graphic art, sculpture, graphic design, stage décor, as well as poster, interior and exterior design.
Between 1974 and 1990, his artistic career was developing mainly in Bulgaria because of the limitations imposed by the communist administration. During that period he was not allowed to travel and exhibit abroad. After the change of the regime in 1990 his international career took off. Mitchev had the unique chance to exhibit together with Salvador Dali at Gallerie L'angle aigu in Bruxelles, Belgium. He gained major exposure in France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Denmark. In 1994, the artist joined one of the biggest cultural projects of UNESCO together with Cesar and Carsu, and in 1997 the three of them had an exhibition at Hotel de la Monnaie, Paris, France.

Mitchev's paintings are displayed in collections all over the world along with De Buffet, Picasso, Dali and Botero. In late 2000, the artist and his family relocated to Tampa, Florida, USA.

"During the past century, there was too much aggression and hostility in art and life. Because of this, I have promised myself that I will paint for love and unity. For unity between all people, races, religions, man and nature, and for tolerance between the rich and the poor. For me, this is not an abstract idea, but my deep feeling and belief."

"As humans, we need to remember some very simple things like joy, tears, happiness... This is why time in my painting is reflected by a stillness. The history and memory of mankind are gathered in one place.
My painting is a message to all people who need love and beauty. What everyone will see in them has already happened, is happening at the moment or will happen in the future. These images are inspired by the memory of mankind and the purest vibrations that people feel."

"These paintings are like children to me and that is why I am thankful if they bring joy and satisfaction. For me, painting is a form of thinking. It is a way of living. It is a mission impossible to give up. Painting is a salvation for my wicked soul..."
