About the artist:
Kylie Porter is a Perth/Mandurah based artist
who has been painting for the past 10 years, experiencing life in
Outback Australia, Kakadu, Indonesia, Tanzania, Italy and Egypt. In
1993 the need to explore Australia led Kylie into the mining
industry to remote Laverton, Western Australia. Then moving to
Kakadu National Park in Northern Territory. While working in the
Northern Territory Kylie was also involved in the local community
"Wind Festivals", offering her professional skills in Graphic Design
for promotional material, through to setting up Exhibitions with
'Art back' in Jabiru/Kakadu. Surrounded by rich rugged escarpment,
tranquil water lily filled billabongs, Paperbark swamps and the
abundance of wild life; Kylie captured this and more with her
paintings.
In 2000 Kylie journeyed to Africa - Geita Gold Mine for 8months
experiencing a third world culture, painting Africa from the
colourful people to farming, and the amazing wildlife. Then to Egypt
and Italy.
Recent Exhibitions "Exotica" & "Lush" concentrate on transformations
and awakenings exploring the depths of one's heart and soul,
capturing deep passions and desires. A series of nudes combined with
large exotic flowers, portraying a flash into one's life, pausing
still for all to see. The power of seduction and the evolutionary
process from lust to love are obvious characteristics. Kylie's use
of colour is vibrant and electric drawing the viewer closer, while
her Australian landscapes, bird life and exotic flowers derivative
of Australian fauna, echo magnificent colour schemes and are a
trademark of Kylies work.
In 2004 Kylie worked with Fashion Designer Meredith Forder 'Sakshi -
eve'n eden" using Kylies painting 'Temptation' printed on fabric to
create a collection for spring/summer 04/05. She spent 2004/05 at
Seashells Resort Mandurah. With my farming background I've tried to
capture the old Mandurah history - Peel Region, by bringing my
family memories alive, using Australiana elements and vibrant colour
in a series of paintings on canvas. Seashells Resort will be opening
July 2005 with canvas prints of Kylie's paintings decorating the
beachfront villas.
