About the Artist

Jon Denaro studied at the Claremont School of Art and the University of Tasmania before plunging into a wealth of activity. Since 1989 he has produced work for several solo and group exhibitions and has forged strong partnerships with PICA and the ARTRAGE festival. His work is primarily sculptural and he has a particular affinity with wood, metal and recycled materials, as seen in his most recent solo exhibition (Second Skin, Fremantle Arts Centre, 2001). He has recently commenced passing on his experience by lecturing in art and design.

He lived in Margaret River with his wife, fellow artist Bec Juniper, and their four children from 1999 to 2002. Many of his projects have focused on youth and the local community. Since moving to Fremantle this year (2002), Jon has already immersed himself in the local scene by participating in the Art of Refuge and Deckchair group exhibitions.
